Pricing e-commerce products without accounting for selling fees often erodes business profits. This calculator subtracts inventory cost, shipping, additional expenses, and variable platform fees from your target price to find net unit profit. Profit margin expresses this return relative to sales price, whereas markup measures it against acquisition cost. Dividing direct expenses by one minus the fee percentage identifies the break-even price needed to prevent loss.
Evaluate a hypothetical retail example to see how margins function. Suppose you list an item at $40.00 with a manufacturing cost of $15.00, packaging shipping of $5.00, extra expenses of $2.00, and an entered sales fee of 15%. Platform fees total $6.00 (15% of $40.00). Subtracting combined costs of $28.00 leaves a net profit of $12.00, yielding a 30.0% margin and an 80.0% markup. The break-even selling price is $25.88 ($22.00 divided by 0.85).
This tool provides mathematical estimates and does not guarantee financial profitability or provide tax counsel. Preset marketplace rates are not included, requiring you to enter fee percentages directly. Income taxes, settlement withholdings, and refund overheads are excluded from calculation. Browser-based script execution ensures that your cost parameters remain strictly on your local device without external transmission.
Markup divides net profit by inventory cost. If cost is zero, division by zero is mathematically undefined. In this scenario, the markup metric is omitted while the margin relative to selling price continues to calculate normally.
No marketplace fee presets are embedded in this utility. You must manually look up your specific category fee percentage and enter that exact value between 0% and 99.9% into the fee field.
Yes. Even when currently operating at a net loss, dividing combined product, shipping, and extra costs by one minus the fee percentage accurately displays the baseline price required to reach zero profit.
